Join us for one of 3 pre-conference hands-on workshops, as an opportunity to dive more deeply into specific teaching and learning strategies:
Beyond Alignment – Curriculum Mapping to Improve Teaching and Learning
Curriculum mapping is a process well recognized as part of the assessment cycle. In this hands-on workshop participants will be introduced to several uses for curriculum mapping beyond alignment of curriculum. Examples of curriculum maps will be used to guide discussion and to facilitate hands-on activities throughout the session. Participants will discover how the curriculum mapping process can be used at every stage of the assessment cycle, how faculty can use the process to take a greater leadership role over the assessment process, and how it can be used as a learning tool for students. This session is intended for faculty and assessment specialists.
Don’t Just Collect; Act!
The generation and collection of educational data has had strong emphasis in recent years. Yet data collection alone is insufficient to promote institutional improvement. This workshop takes an action-focused approach to improve student learning, student retention, curriculum, address regulatory requirements and internal processes. Participants will identify actions addressing opportunities, issues or requirements for their institution. They will then plan and create a report and execution strategy to support the action. Examples of common actions, reports and plans will be used to direct activities and discussions throughout the session. This session is intended for academic leaders from among our Education Partners using Enterprise Reporting.
Something for Everyone: Promoting Student Success Through Collaboration and Media
Are students mere sponges absorbing content? Are they buckets that must be filled with skills? Although such analogies are common, literature suggests that students today need to be thought of differently. We might consider students as engines, where the instructor provides the fuel, but the students must engage their intellectual gears to explore and learn. This hands-on workshop will provide ideas and techniques for using multimedia, discussions, blogs, and peer review for students to work collaboratively and master content and skills. Following a brief overview of research and best practices, members of the Pearson eCollege Academic Training & Consulting team will circulate the room to answer questions and assist participants in incorporating these engaging strategies into LearningStudio courses. Multimedia and Web 2.0 tools will be included. Each participant will receive a blank sandbox course shell for practice. This workshop is intended for anyone with a basic knowledge of LearningStudio, though previous experience teaching online will be beneficial. Please bring your own laptop and be ready for an engaging experience!
Please note: There is an additional cost for these workshops and space is limited! All workshops are concurrent.
